Gough Street (Noho)

Gough Street is a little street not far from Soho (the area known as Noho) and offers a selection of cosy restaurants and cafes, as well as a few creative lifestyle shops. Lunch here followed by a stroll around the shops forms a nice two/three-hour alternative to the buzz of Soho.

Of particular interest in terms of stores is Ecols (No 8 & 10 Gough Street, Central, Tel: 3106 4918), which was opened in 2009, and is Hong Kong’s first store to sell a range of environmentally friendly lifestyle products. The handbags, wallets, furniture, lamps, vases, jewellery, together with all the materials and lighting that form the shop itself, are eco-friendly. Handbags made of candy wrapper scrap, pull tabs and newspapers are popular and funky. There is a range of recycled teak-wood furniture, by eco designer Dr Singh Intrachooto, which is quite modern and chic in appearance. Moreover, Ecols has become an exhibition space for creatives to share their eco ideas. So, you are likely to see such exhibits during your visit.
